韋德和熱火簽下2年4700萬（約台幣15.4億），同時發布聲明：「我從沒忘記自己從哪裡來，公牛隊在我成長中扮演很重要的地位，並激勵我成為籃球員。對於能夠效力啟蒙自己籃球路的球隊，感到相當感激。」
熱火總管「油頭」萊里對韋德離去感到相當難過，「我們真的很愛他，但即便球隊是大家庭，彼此也會有不同人生。我了解他的痛苦，以及如何被推向邊緣，韋德有權，也做了最後決定。」
儘管萊里對韋德離隊表示悲傷，但是「邁阿密前鋒報」披露，在自由球員洽談期間，萊里對韋德連一通電話都沒打過，讓韋德感到心寒。
懷塞德看到韋德離隊之後，馬上在推特放上一張卡通海綿寶寶「蟹老闆」神情恍惚的照片，形容受到相當衝擊。
目前自由市場球員所剩無幾，不是具有風險，就是傷病不斷，真正能能成為球隊主要戰力的選項並不多。
